Good news:
- My cervical biopsies came back negative for dysplasia of any kind. Thank god. The dreaded virus still lurketh, but my body is clearly fighting it off.
Bad news:
- The mole biopsy on my face, flesh colored little thing that was wedged into my naso-labial crease (line between nose and corner of lip) came back as nodular basal cell carcinoma.
I got both reports within a few hours just yesterday. The dermatologist said that he could schedule me with a MOHS surgeon next Friday, the 28th, or the next opening was March 25th. I know it’s not a horribly malignant type of cancer (I’ve googled it extensively in the last day) but since this is the second time this mole has been removed over 5 or so years, they seemed to imply that I should go for sooner rather than later. Like with everything else in NYC, there are oodles of MOHS surgeons, but none that I can get a recommendation for, and none that will see me quickly. Also, I worry about waiting too long to take care of this as the scar/suture area will fade and I wonder how she’ll know where to start CUTTING?
Today I booked a one way trip to the Bay Area ($200, not bad buying less than a week til departure) – leaving midday on Thursday as surgery is 10AM on Friday. They said I could fly right home as they wouldn’t need to see me again (MOHS surgery has a 99% cure rate). But I wonder if that is wise? I feel that I should at least stay until Monday in case my sutures do something crazy (like come apart?) over the weekend and need to be redone.
I have to tell you. The last 12 months haven’t been easy. Here’s the tally:
- 1 ovarian sclerotherapy
- 4 failed IVF cycles
- Laparoscopy to remove endo
- Colonoscopy after 3 months of sickness
- Dx of lymphocytic colitis
- Giant polyp removed from my descending colon
- Dx of virus
- Abnormal pap test
- Colposcopy
- Cervical biopsy (normal!)
- Dx nodular basal cell carcinoma
- Confirmation that my anemia isn’t B-12 related (my levels are “through the roof”, said my hematologist). After 1 gram of iron infused into my body, I am, 1 year later, back in the “anemia” zone and my ferritin levels have dropped 50%. No Dx found yet.
All I know is that 2011 has got to get better from here on out. I thought that 2010 was the year that sucked ass. 2011 is off to a bumpy beginning, that’s for sure.
